Modern Maple Quilt

One of an autumn quilt theme that I manage to make this year finally is here , it has been in my bucket list for so long .. just realize how fun block I can make everyday, until my head spin again... should I or should I not do hand quilting ? off course the last choice always win !!   Hand Quilting , off course ...  is like relaxing therapy to me .  There is so many empty (negative) space in this quilt which I happy to add 'maple leaf' hand stitches pattern to add durability to this quilt.

The Quilt finish is 57 x 67 inches which is a perfect size for cuddle - for hand quilting I used a pumpkin color Egyptian Cotton Thread

Smocked Sun Dress

I think my daughter will need smocked sun dress during summer , ooh .. wait .. I even sew 3 dresses - it is fun sewing , I can't stop ... I think I will add more dress for her .

Hourglass quilt

Hello .. how are you, all ?

As much as I love to updating my blog ; I hardly get enough time for myself to sit - and type what was going on in our life or put new recipes .  Life has been busy around us , with summer time is approaching , and school will end soon .. I know what will happen with my time is , spending time with kiddo and enjoy the summer .  I am not sure yet, but seem we will have a hot summer time this year, but hopefully not reach triple digits like last summer.

 

 

Finally I manage to finish my last quilt before end of May, as I promise and wrote on my note book.  I love the colors I put here.. so many cutting fabrics,  I fallen in love with the pattern as I saw at beloved quilter blog, Rita from Red Pepper Quilt Blog. Since than I told myself to make one :) to me, quilt must to bring happiness to everybody who will receive the quilt .. and I think I nail it ... the quit size is 53 x 68 inches..
 

The quilt will sending out the end of this month , and while still on my hand.. I have  privilege to keep looking and touching the softness of the quilt .

Friendship

 

Have you ever 'meet' someone online but become closer than ever ? I do ... !! I have and 'meet' several people online , never meet in a real life but our friendship grow big and big .. well, if I can tell that even better that a real person that I meet daily actually. I don't know why, maybe because I am a shy person so I feel more comfort meet people online .. 

Yesterday, someone made me cry by sending a beautiful package full with a lovely stuff. I never meet my dear friend Chase, but tough our friendship is grow nicely every time we share story through e-mail . She is nice and caring person , hopefully someday I can be able to meet her and have a cup of tea .. maybe .. hopefully ..

I hope your life going to be wonderful too, my friends reader .. thank you for visiting my blog daily ..

 

And since today is Friday, is should be nice to bake some cake before we heading another cold weekend. well .. I chose pretty simple recipe, BUT ... don't ask the taste of the cake.. it's very delicious and very moist , maybe because of the blueberry inside of the cake itself make the cake taste so different.. let's try

 

 

Blueberries Pound Cake

Ingredients

6 eggs, separated (do this while the eggs still cold)

1 cup butter, softened

3 cups of sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 cups all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 cup fresh blueberries (if using frozen, use without thawing do avoid discoloring the batter)

    

Directions

1. Let eggs stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the extracts and butter flavoring. Combine flour and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beating well after each addition. In another bowl and with clean beaters, beat egg whites on high speed until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter. Fold in blueberries.                        
2. Spoon into a greased and floured 10-in. tube pan. Bake at 350° for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 16-20 servings.

Being Old is cool ...

 

Alright, I'm 1 more year older than last month .. * I will tell you know exactly  how old I'm next year -grin- * well, when I was young I always worry about the aging process, but when I over 30 I no longer worry... you can say that you have moree experiences to share to younger generation LOL - bla..bla..bla..  but I tell you being old is COOL ... !!

It was a nice surprise party that my husband and my step daughter throw for me last night ; I really didn't expect that will happened - thought, I almost ruin their surprise party because someone got sick .

Off course, like they said : the shoe maker doesn't have shoe and the baker doesn't have cake either - well, it will be funny if I bake my own cake .. don't you think. And I decide not to bake yesterday.

So, the party was great .. I really feel blessed surrounding by family and friends who loves me so dearly. At the end of the night, everyone stop by to our house for tea and off course there was a birthday cake .. that my friend bring for me .. so cute..

And look what I got ? seem someone checked my Amazon wish list ... aaah, I don't need to telling you how lucky I'm - this books are already on my list for long , finally on my hand now .. thank you a bunch, dear..

Modern I Spy Quilt

 

This is a short posting before I become busy tomorrow preparing for Thanksgiving Day. :)

Finally I finished this quilt - it's a very long process and time consuming also too many individual blocks ; all together there is 80 blocks. And a hundreds of nice fabrics, some are rare fabrics, Japanese Fabrics, some even no longer in market. The fabrics are my collection , that I collected for so long, Ebay Auctions even gift from my nice flickr's friends. 

 

The picture below is one of my favorite block, a vintage fabric 'ginger pancake recipe'

I use Aneela Fabric's collection for backing, isn't look adorable ?

The Common Cookies

 

Ask Indonesian people, what a popular cookies for Eid Celebration ? no doubt, they will say "Nastar" and "Katetong" - a very simple cookies yet delicious.  You are not celebrate Eid, if you don't have nastar - well, I think that is a real MANTRA !!  As like other who celebrate Eid in Indonesia - far away from home, I want do the same , bake a humble nastar and katetong. eew, why I just bake once a year since hubby and daughter loves this ?

The other hand, I just realize that another cookies named : katetong - has a different named around the country. Some called cat tounge (which make sense to me, katetong - sound like cat tounge) or Lingue di gato are so named because their shape resembles a cat’s tongue.  They also look a lot like a ladyfinger.  Katetong have a wonderful buttery flavor and can be served plain or frosted with a glaze of bittersweet chocolate.  You can also sandwich two cookies together with the chocolate glaze or with a little jam or Nutella. 

I got this recipe from my beloved friend, Ika Ray - so talented lady, who loves to bake and cook  . I need to re-post the recipe since I told my daughter, someday she need to bake her own :)

 

 

Nastar / Pineapple Tarts Recipe

Recipe : Ika Ray Kitchen

Pineapple Jam Filling
Ingredients:
4 large pineapples
300 g sugar
1 clove
1 inch cinnamon stick

Method:
1. Slice and grate pineapples till fine. You can use a food processor do grate it.
2. In medium pot ( i used spaghetti pot - so the pot deep enough to simmer the jam and not much of mess around the kitchen after work) put the grated pineapple, cinnamon stick, clove, let it simmer until the juice has dry up. Than add sugar .
3. Stir till the pineapple has thickened and dry.

Note : You can make the filling in advance and refrigerate it.

Pastry
Ingredients:
350 g margarine
350 gr butter
150 g caster sugar
4 egg yolks
900 g all purpose flour
1 tsp vanilla essence

Egg Brush
2 egg yolk plus 1Tbsp water

Method:
1.Preheat oven at 150° C.
2.Cream margarine, butter and sugar till white.
3.Add in egg yolks and beat at low speed for 1 minute.
4.Fold in flour gradually.
5.Take about 2 tsp pastry dough, roll, press with your finger put a filling, roll it again.
6.Brush with egg brush. Add clove for decoration (optional)
7.Bake in a preheat oven at 350F for 20-25 minutes or when tarts is light golden brown in color

 

Katetong / Cat Tounge Cookies

Recipe : Ika Ray

Ingredients:
white eggs from 3 eggs (approx.90 - 100 ml)
450 gr margarine
150 gr butter
350 gr powder sugar
75 gr shreded cheddar cheese
600 gr all purpose flour (shive)
1/2 tsp vanilla

Direction :
Beat margarine, butter, sugar until smooth and fluffy.
Add white eggs, little by little, beat again until smooth and well blended. Gradually add flour .
With spatulla add cheddar cheese, mix well.
Place the dough inside a piping bag (i used plain tip). Then squeezed
out the dough into a greased kattetong mould. or just I just placed the dough on a cookie tin which was lined with a piece of parchment paper - pipe about 4 - 5 cm long
Bake in a preheat oven at 350F for 15-20 minute until done

I've been making many pillows lately ; is always fun to see the final result. Most the time I never plan on specific design - everything just cross my mind, see the piles of left over fabric from last quilt and voila.. fun pillow.

See this pillow above ? I think that is perfect block design for a bike-lover. What do you think?

And see another pillow bellow , I even add a simple message with hand stich on the bottom of yellow block pillow. This pillow is for a lady who loves yellow bee (the chevron pillow is backing view for yellow block bee pillow)

Thank You .. *I'm back*

 

Forgive me not updating my blog for almost 2 and half months - and I know some of my friends and contacts still looking after me ; wondering where am I going ? What happened with me . For that matters I would like to say Thank You that you are so loyal to me.

I'm still around , kind of busy with my family to take care , but I promise I will come back when I have a plenty time like before to share my recipes to you and visiting you again.

You know, sometime life is going to different direction without warning - our life just turn to other directions that we never expect . It was sad, it was nerve- racking . For some reason, I need to be strong ; I must to believe that everything happen for a reason - always rainbow after rain. I have no energy to be sad, and at the end we know, there is Allah always help us to find the way out :)

I (we) always feel blessing that we have many family and nice friends around . To me , is so easy to see who is your truly friend is , they who come to you during hard time and not always in a good time. Trust me, is not always about money, but just simple question, if we still alive or not.. that is mean a lot to me.

I know I cant thank you enough for what friends, family did to us but just let me share a little thing that I made from the bottom of my heart. How grateful I'm - to have you as my family friends .

Proudly Parents..

 

Hello.. Happy Friday for you all , it's absolutely lovely weather here until Saturday. I've been work out at the gym since morning , kicked my lazy a** and get more active today.. Hurt little bit after long pause, but I feel much better.

It's pretty busy week for me, but the best I can tell is I'm a proudly mom. My 6yo is doing a very great job at school.

First she has been chosen to participate in FLEX Enrichment for second time in 2 years in row because of her assessment scores at class. In FLEX Enrichment class, she will have the opportunity to engage in higher level thinking activities. For sure, she must to sign a behavior contract during the program :) but so far she is enjoy the new activity beside gymnastic and swimming lesson.

The second lovely thing was, she did a fabulous job on her Fauvism Landscape painting, and she has been chosen to represent her school at the North Regional Art Exhibition. The artists came from student at Elementary, Middle and High School at North Regional Area.

We attended the art exhibition on last Wednesday, it was packed .. full with parents, kids, teacher and staff from many school. I can tell all of them were proud with their kids art and craft objects. And me and my husband  were so surprise with her art paint too - so lovely. :) *I'm proud of you dear*

Well, may be I brag too much .. but who doesn't feel proud if your kiddos doing right thing in their age ? I'm sure you do.

Oh, she has been talked to her grandma and grandpa over the phone . Her 'bahasa' is getting better everyday. Can't wait to see them soon, I'm sure grandma and pa must be miss her so much, so she is.. Grand ma asked when she will come to Indonesia again, she answered : 'sabar ya,uti' (be patient, grandma )  LOL

cold weekend..

 

Already March second !! Still cold at STL - and just typical Saturday morning, my husband go for half day work, most the time just meet clients , and me must to take a little one for gymnastic class every Saturday morning.

Wake up early this morning my 6yo daughter said, "today is Dr. Seuss's Birthday and I want green egg for breakfast" *you might know book A Green Eggs And Ham- from Dr. Seuss* eeww...*  anyway, she made her own egg, 1 egg + 1 drop of blue food coloring , whisk very well = green egg. {ooh, my I forgot to take a picture} , oh yups.. she eat those green egg + 2 slice of bread and ready for gymnastic!

 

Yesterday she brought home , a change box as a part of Pennies for Patients Program. Which is the kids from her school will collecting spare change around the house and donating the money to support LLS's mission (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) - mostly for kids with cancer.  And what make me proud is, she just 6yo and she already think one step ahead , if she can do a lot of chore and get paid for it, her box will fill up soon.  And she really did ..  make up her bed, clean her room, fold the clothes etc.  And she get pay for good cause  :)

What? Me ? during cold weekend ? is too cold to go outside, just reading some good books and flip sewing magazines I got several days ago. It's really good book, though..   The Japanese Sewing book I got from Joann's - on sale + commotion coupon, the final price was $7 ! And James Patterson novel (my favorite author) just 75cent from Thrift Store.

 

In fact, I have another reason to visit fabric store soon *I can't find exact coordinating fabric for binding and backing from my drawer* {really??, are you serious ? } - well, do you see my blankets ?? those are not finish, I don't have a fabrics .. ooh GOD ... ^_^

Just a little something

eeekss.. change my mind in last minute from making this craft, I don't know.. why always like that ? playing around with fabrics, in the middle of work I stop and all sudden thinking something else, and voila .. 1 hour work!  A little pouch

And Finally after 2 years in bag, I used this pretty corduroy apple fabrics (seem I always missed this fabric) and the stripes? I think I use a lot for my little projects.

This little pouches will send away, for a beautiful ladies for Valentine's Day gift. Hope they will like it..

In fact I love the lining fabric so fresh..

A beautiful memory

 

Last week, I was contacted by my daughter's teacher ..(Mrs.H) she asked me if I willing to do extra quilting work outside of personal. And without doubt I said 'Yes' - oh No, the story not just that .. Mrs.H sister will having a baby on April and their family will having a baby shower  next week, their late grandma started a cross-stich baby quilt, and so sad, she passed before she finishing the work.

Honest to GOD, I had a goose bump when I saw her work for the first time, the cross stich absolutely beautiful - I can feel her hand 'dancing' on the fabric while she made this beautiful blanket.

So short story, I agree to sew backing and binding , well.. I still feel nervous even I sew several blankets already .. you know, this work has a beautiful memory, I don't want to messing it up.

And in 2 hours I finished the quilt, and still have a left over fabrics and I decided to make a little pillow too.

 

I'm not taking credit for the quilt, I'm just did a little sewing on quilt . But still, this is a nice thing ever happened in my sewing experience.

So, what do you think about the quilt ? I know you will agree with me .. this is a such a beautiful handcraft made by a beautiful lady.. God Bless Her..

..back on track..

 

with so much distraction around me lately, from news about my beloved grandma who passed away a week ago , next was a computer crash , wipe out all the data on computer , and last was some family's issue . Oh gosh ..I was so tired, those made me delay some of my homework . But I know everything happen for a reason, there is no problem without solution.  Everything will be all right, with a good family members who always beside me no matter how hard the problem are - GOD gives us strength  , and thank you for my husband, we celebrate another year in a good times and bad times together again yesterday . Love you, Hun..

 

And today, finally I be able to back on track . Finished what had been delay before.. such back to my sewing machine ... Q..U..I..L..T..I..N..G - you know I do love quilting :)

4 sewing project already sent to customer !! She was so happy see a whole finish project, and I more happier too .. everything just perfect, and need to back sewing 'holliday theme project' pretty soon ..

Friday Project .. done !!

 

Phuuuih.. finally, my 3 quilts blanket are done ! I just need to put my sewing label on it. I put them on listing at my new Facebook Pages, and I'm still thinking to create a new Etsy shop as soon as possible.. (well, if the customer take a whole blankets, the story will be different than :)  I gave you a sneak peek last Friday , and voila .. you can check the result at my pages here :

Anyway, now I have time to bake again .. my "cookies monster" member are craving for my cake .. 

Ubee Cake is an easy cake, eem.. a little trick for my hubby actually, he doesn't like taste of sweet potatoes - so, I just mixed the sweet potatoes into the cake batter .. No complain, and he ate almost half of portion of 9inches of cake LOL.
 

 

UBEE CAKE / Sweet Potatoes Cake
100 grams yellow sweet potatoes, wash, steamed, smashed.
75 grams lite coconut milk
75 grams butter, melted
10 yellow eggs
2 white eggs
125 grams granulated sugar
½ tsp salt
125 gram all purpose flour
¼ tsp baking powder
25 grams rice chocolate (meises)

1. Prepared the oven for 350 F -  greased 9 inches round baking pan. Set a side

2.Blend sweet potatoes and salt together, set a side. Add melted butter, mixed very well.

3. With hand mixer whisk eggs, sugar, salt until well corporate. Add flour and baking powder, stir with spatula. Add sweet potatoes mixture, once at the time – make it 3 times, mix well. at last, add rice chocolate, stir it.

4. Bake for about 35-40 minute or until the skewer comes clean when you poke in the middle of cake.

Sneak Peak Friday

 

pardon me, not much of baking this day .. I'm lack of time - too many things to do, too little time.

As I remember, I update my baking recipe about 3 weeks ago, now it's almost end of September, and Autumn is just 1 day ahead. Where is  the time fly ? don't ask me .  :(

Anyway, this just a little sneak peek from my project that need to be done over the weekend, cross finger. For my customer who is so patiently waiting 2 quilts. I hope *with all my heart* she will like the version of happy quilt.

Another Happy Colors..

I don't have any sewing skill background, I never attend sewing class or what so ever, I proud to say that I'm self taught sewing who learn from many mistake. It take me a while to figure out all the steps. And until today I still learn from everywhere. Including, Youtube. Yeaah right, I'm graduation student from Youtube :O But so far, I'm happy with every result.  And I definitely make quilts to be loved and used, not show quilt. The lady who order this picnic blanket just want a happy colors. My idea about happy colors is to put as many bright pretty colors as I can. I hope she will like it.

No Baking Today : New NOOK bag

Now, I know how to using my first time quilt mixer block. Add into linen fabric apron - what do you think ?
